Youth Service and Advocacy Training

Are you juggling asthma or allergy symptoms along with your schoolwork, sports and social life? (Did somebody say sleep?!) Do school rules or people's attitudes get in your way?

Or maybe you're ready to tell legislators or people running for office this year what you really need to stay healthy.

Grab a friend and get to DC for a kids-only service and advocacy conference. Hands-on workshops will give you the tools to help others and make yourself heard at school, doctor's visits – even city hall or the Nation's Capital.

In the Driver's Seat: You don't need a driver's license to steer clear of asthma triggers. When you can control asthma and allergies yourself, you take a giant step toward independence – and your parents will stop bugging you every day!

What Do You Think? Connect with others your age to talk about what matters to you and gets in the way of living life. Brainstorm ways to make healthy changes.

Giving Back: Create your own action plan to help others in your school or community with asthma or allergies. Whatever you choose, you can make a difference.

Make Your Voice Count: Okay, you know what you want to do, now how do you make adults pay attention? Our tools and tips will give you the skills and confidence to get your message out.

Asthma Awareness Day Capitol Hill: Go where the power is. Tell your representatives in Congress exactly what matters to you. Then visit a special Congressional briefing and AANMA's Capitol Hill Health Expo.

Talk with your family about making travel plans now to visit Washington, DC, May 5-7, 2008. And bring a friend!

Youth program participants must be accompanied to the conference by an adult. The May 5-6 youth program will be fully chaperoned and organized by youth staff. Youth will attend Capitol Hill events May 7 with their families.
